Triathlons - September

Once again it is time for the monthly update!

What a wonderful month we had in August. The weather was superb and we had some absolutely fabulous time together as a family. Yes, it is true there was one major hiccup along the way. That is probably the best place to start. Unfortunately it involved Eric, our eldest son, who was hospitalized and underwent emergency surgery for a blocked intestine as a result of his Chron's disease. He spent a week in the Montreal General and had to miss out on the Family Weekend at the Cottage. He seems to be doing better now and has expanded his food choices and is gaining back some of the weight he had lost. He goes back to work next week.

On the weekend of August 10 - 12, the rest of the family gathered at the Cottage at Lake MacDonald. Although the weather was not swimming weather, we had plenty to do. A trip to the beaver dam, a walk in the swamp, going to play mini-golf, and a walk down by the creek were the main outside activities. Playing Uno with Darcy and Wesley and Rook with the adults rounded out the activities.

Darcy and Wesley came home with us for a few days. We had a marvelous round of activities which included a trip to the Angrignon Shopping Mall with lunch at Subway. Darcy devoured a salami 6 inch sub while Wesley took a few bites out of his ham sub! New toys were purchased by Grandmaman who simply ''HAD'' to buy something for the grand children!!! On Tuesday we went to the Biosphere at Park Jean Draper and had a splashingly great time in the ''Water Room''where there  are plenty of hands-on activities. Yes, we did get wet! As the hunger pangs set in a picnic lunch on the upper deck gave an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding parkland and view of Montreal skyline.

The afternoon activity was a trip to the NDG swimming pool which is a favourite. There was lots of splashing and racing across the multipurpose pool. Darcy is able to stand but Wesley needs to have a noodle for support. Great fun for all!

Due to appointments on our calendars we made a quick trip to Ottawa to return our grand children on the Wednesday.

Before the swim
Gigi and I are quite adjusted after our 11 months away and we have taken up the usual household chores such as cooking, doing the laundry, putting out the recycling, and other chores. I am sure you get the idea!

Last weekend we were in Ottawa to cheer Stephanie and Nicholas on as they both competed in the Iron-man. Stephanie did the Triathlon Sprint and came in 4th out of 11 in here age group with a time of 2:00:58. We are very proud of her accomplishment! Nicholas did the half Iron-man and placed 3rd in his age group and came away with a Bronze! His time was just over 5:34. We were all at the finish line to cheer him on. Great job, Nick, we are proud of you!

Crossing the finish line
Yesterday, September 8, we went to the Olympic Basin in Montreal to cheer on Stephanie as she competed in her second Triathlon Sprint. She had an amazing time for her swim and was 2nd out of the water for her age group. Overall she placed 14th out of 28 in her category with a time of 1:25:16. The Montreal times were much faster than the Ottawa times. If Stephanie had done as well in Ottawa she would have placed 2nd in her group. What a remarkable achievement for her. We are proud of you, Stef!!!
