April 2011
Time flies when you are having fun!
Last month, March, was March Break in the school system in Ontario. My wife and I decided it would be a good time for a visit by our grand-daughter to Montreal. When we were in Ottawa visiting the family we made the suggestion that Darcy come to Montreal for a few days for a visit.
The tears flowed!
We were sure the answer would be negative. Were we wrong! Darcy had very mixed feelings about coming when the subject was raised. As the day progressed she warmed to the idea. By lunch time she had decided she was coming to Montreal and would return home on Wednesday. I thought we would be lucky to keep her until Tuesday!
Coming home to Montreal Darcy spoke with her Grandmaman in French for the first hour. It seemed that Grandmaman could scarcely get in a word. I wondered if she was breathing in! There was certainly a lot of hot air coming out. All of a sudden she said, ''That's enough for now. I am going to speak English'' And, she did!
Monday morning was baking time with Papa. Chocolate cookies with walnuts were the order of the day. In the afternoon Darcy and Papa visited the Redpath Museum while Grandmaman went shopping. Then the three of us had to buy souvenirs for Darcy to take back to her brother and her parents.
Darcy enjoyed being able to play with the toys at our house and to build farms and stores without her little brother knocking everything over.
Tuesday morning was at home and painting was the main activity. After lunch a visit to the McCord Museum, a ride on the Metro and a ride on the bus was all we were able to do.
Aunt Stephanie joined us for dinner and had the privilege of being read to at bedtime by Darcy! There is certainly a role reversal going on here!!!
After another good sleep the breakfast menu of waffles with berries was a success. A picnic lunch was packed for Darcy and Papa to eat on the bus trip to Ottawa. Just after leaving the island of Montreal Darcy commented ''these look like Ottawa forests!'' Papa replied they were really Québec forests. Once we were across the provincial border and into Onatrio, Darcy was convinced ''These forests look more like Ottawa forests!''
We were met a the bus terminal by Nick and then had a pleasant afternoon with the family before Papa boarded the bus for the return trip to Montreal.
All in all a great time that is sure to be repeated!
