June 2009 - update
What a month this has been! It is simply amazing at how quickly time flies by. Here it is, June 29 and I am just getting around to my monthly update.
The weather in Montreal this spring has been very spring-like! Yes, we did not go directly from winter to summer as has happened in the past. We actually had a spring with cool or warm days, with or without sun and/or rain. The plants did not wilt when they were planted in the garden. As a matter of fact, the plants grew rather slowly, or so it seems. the garden is now a rich tapestry of colors and textures with a good mix of perennials and annuals. Hopefully there will be a few more perennials added next spring. I have had lots of fun consulting the big plant encyclopedia and checking out which perennials are suitable for zone 4. There are so many varieties and colors to choose from as well as blooming periods and height to consider. All in all, an excellent exercise and I am pleased with my first attempt in this dapple shaded garden.
Gigi and I took a week of our vacation and paid a visit to Windsor to visit the grand children and their parents. Darcy and Wesley were delighted to see us and we had a great time with them. Darcy is very lady-like for a 5 year old and has picked up an excellent vocabulary in French from her Junior Kindergarten year. Wesley does not have the extensive vocabulary of his sister. He is an outdoors boy. At any and every chance he had, it was out the door. We enjoyed our visit to the NFL park early one morning and there are a few pictures to share.
Following our Windsor stay with Steve, we went on to London for dinner with my cousin and his wife. It was great to catch up with them. The next day it was on to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. We took in The Three Sisters (Chekhov) and Cyrano de Bergerac (Rostand). both were outstanding performances. We were duly impressed by Cyrano played by Colm Feore. We later discovered he is well known in the English Theatre circles and also for his role in Bad Cop, Bon Cop.
We ended our vacation with some friends in Toronto, had a walk along the boardwalk, lunch at Prarie Ink, and also attended the Commissioning of new Salvation Army Officers.
The month has gone and July is just around the corner.
