Renovations complete
You might be wondering what has happened to me! I think I mentioned we were having some renovations done in our basement. Well, the renovations were completed in early December and then the finishing had to be done to get the basement ready for Nick, Sue and family when they came for a 6 day visit. Painting, carpeting, drapes - to provide privacy to the sleeping area, washer and drier, shower curtain and bath mat. We had hoped to put in a full size shower. This was not to be due to the proximity of the drain stack to a foundation pillar. An alternate had to be found. We ended up with a mounted mini-bath tub and shower. By mounting it off the floor we were able to add a pump to pump the water up and over into the stack.
All kinds of little projects that turned out to be not so little after all. We did not replace the ceiling as having an open concept gave just a bit more space for the taller members of the family. We are getting used to the spray painted white ceiling with the wires.
It's all over. Nick, Sue and the grand children came and stayed for 6 days. We had a wonderful time. We managed an afternoon on Mount Royal. Darcy really enjoyed tobogganing down the hill with Auntie Stef or Papa. The picnic in the snow with hot chocolate and cookies really topped of the outing.
Now it's back to reality - paying for the project! Ouch - a bit more than budgeted. Isn't that always the case. When did you ever hear of a project coming in under budget? Oh well, it had to be done. The finished project is quite nice and we are very comfortable watching TV downstairs, being able to do laundry, and having the extra space.
Perhaps the photos will give you some idea of the final product.
Happy New Year to all.
