Funny week

This has been a "funny week" at school.

It all started last Sunday afternoon when there was a religious parade in town. Apparently some stones were thrown at the parade and this touched off three days of protests. We, at school, were advised to stay away from the town during the day. On Monday there was a demonstration - a small one - near the market area. On Tuesday there was a much larger one fairly close to the school. On Wednesday a member of the provincial government was in town and there was a huge demonstration. We could hear the chanting and drumming from the school. The school staff members who live in Ooty advised us to keep a very low profile. We were told by the administration to not go to town during the day.

On Tuesday evening some of us went for coffee at the Coffee Day coffee shop which is about a three minute walk outside the gates. We were the only customers in the place at the time.

Yesterday and today we have been able to go to town with no problems.

We started the school productions for the drama week. On Wednesday night the 7s did their 2 plays, 7A performed "The Dress Rehearsal" a take off on Cinderella, and 7-alpha performed "The Emperor's New Clothes". Last night the 9s performed "Hamlet" and "Stone Soup". Tonight we had "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Wooster and Jeeves". Tomorrow night the 13s perform "Les Miserables". These are all for the school. Next week the four levels perform Monday - Thursday for the parents and the community. There are judges coming in to judge the performances.

I do the lighting for the 2 level 7 plays.

On Saturday morning we leave to go to the jungle at 5:00 A.M. I am taking my camera and hope to get some pictures of wild life.
